Question CKP - Reading a Negative 15???

I used an EFI to look at what my CKP is reading. (I am getting a P0336)

When I read it, I was getting a negative 15 reading. Is this normal?

Understanding that I need a Tech 2 to do the re-learn, I am trying to see if there might be any wiring problems.

Just for laughs, disconnect the sensor and run the engine and the diagnostic again. Chances are it will read -15 degrees when it is unplugged. Indicating you have a broken connection some where. You have got to check the wiring to find your problem.
Disconnect the sensor and measure the harness for +12V and ground. The pink wire going to the sensor should have +12 volts on it when referenced to the ground wire, Pink/black wire going to it. Then ohm the yellow wire from the sensor to the PCM. If the 12 volt line and ground look good, plug the sensor in and check them both again.

For the last time, check the wiring.

Re: CKP - Reading a Negative 15???

I did check the wiring. When its disconnected I get a steady -30. When its connected I get a bouncing -10 to -15. Not knowing if a negative is correct I reversed the wiring and got nothing. So my assumptions are it is wired properlly, but is the pcm reading it correctly? I would only know to see if someone else knows what their CKP reads when operating correctly.

My question is what SHOULD it read?

Re: CKP - Reading a Negative 15???

A 336 will set if the angle from CKP to low res (opti) is outside the range of -10 to +7. The book from GM says to check wiring, connections and reluctor wheel. If all that appears to be good, check misfire counts. Also the conditions that occured when the event took place are stored in a memory location for Failure Records. Have you viewed the opti low res signal?

Are any other DTC's set?
