checking timing with opti rotor?

I was just curious how I could do this.... I was thinking of putting #1 cylinder to tdc and then watching the rotor to make sure that it was at the right point of the cap. So what point in the cap goes to the #1 cylinder?

Maybe I worded that wrong.... I just want to know what way the rotor should be pointing if #1 is at TDC? Anyone?
