Checking Knock Sensor
Checking Knock Sensor
I was wondering if thier is any easy way to check the nock sensor.. I feel the car is being held back from using all its power "timing being retarded because of bad sensor maybe" and the gas mileage is HORRIBLE? "another sign of a bad knock sensor" any info would be great thanks,
Re: Checking Knock Sensor
KS test
With the connector off the KS, check for 5v on the harness terminal with key ON. Continue if that is good. If not good, check at pin D22 (94-97) on back of PCM.
Key OFF. Connector off. Measure the resistance between the KS terminal and ground. Resistance should be between 3300-4500 ohms (OBD-I). If it is not, the sensor is faulty or the sensor is not making good contact with the block.
If all that is good, it might be the knock module or faulty pcm.
OBD-I GM PART # 10456126 ACDdelco #312-96
OBD-II knock sensor resistance range is 93K to 107K ohms. GM PART # 10456287 ACDelco #213-325
A test drive with a scaner would also tell you what the knock sensor is doing.
