I am having issues with my low coolant sensor (replaced it about 6 months ago and the light is on again) and someone said the proper way to check the coolant level is NOT via the overflow tank. If not then where is the proper place to check?

You can look in the radiator when it is cool. I think there is a fill level in there. I think overflow tank should be accurate enough though.
