The OBD2 cars will have an O2 sensor behind each cat just to see that the cat is working. If the cat is gutted or removed, that O2 sensor will not read within the right range and a red flag goes up. That will make the SES light come on.

I didn't think the OBD1 cars had the downstream O2 sensor(s) though?

What code are you getting? Its very possible its just coincidental timing...

With the reduced backpressure, it's probably an "EGR" code.

nah it happend after my cat cloged solid while driving to hooters and it burned the elbow off the air smog pump bullsht setup on this Lt1 and almost burned my lt1 to the ground because as you all know the fuel lines are right near the maf then run to the back/ And it was cloged so bad that the check valves on the manifold that go to the air pump were blowing flames out as i drove her cause it burned off the elbow....thats when all this crap started, anyways that all fixed with drain plugs and a gut'd cat i just need to know how to check the code im getting?

I think that only applies to 93 model. Go to autozone and see what code it is.

Don't bother going to Autozone. They won't be able to read the code. You'll need an OBDI scanner with the correct connector for the '95, or use jumpers on the OBDI scanner, per instructions on Shoebox's site.

Can't the OBD1 LT1 cars have the pins 'jumped' with a paperclip to flash the codes, like the TPI cars could?

No, '93 was the last year you could do that.

You need an OBD-I scanner, like the Auto X-Ray, or software like FreeScan or TTS DataMaster. And you need an adapter for the 12-pin to 16-pin connection. Or you need to use jumper wires as shown on Shoebox's site:

http://shbox.com/1/xraycable.jpg

As noted above, 93 was the last year you could short the pins.

Ok, gotcha... my 3rdgen could have the codes read like that, but my LT1 is an OBD2 car, so thats not an option for that car anyway lol. Now I know.

Actually there's no way to know anything at all about your car, since you haven't taken the time to set up a "signature" with basic info about it.
