Question check gauges light flickers on and off...

recently i opened up the throttle getting onto the freeway and then all of a sudden my check gauges light comes on and stays on and then flickers on and off when i rev the engine. theres probably endless things that could make this happen but does anyone know where to start? thanks...

Did you look at your gauges at that time? That's what it is telling you to do.

Was it raining at the time? I was in a very heavy rainstorm and had the car do that to me once. Something in the ign. system got intermittently wet enough to cause a misfire.

I have always gotten these with an "intermittent missfire" and that is the code that SHOULD come up if you go get it scanned. I have had it happen because of burnt plug wires or the wet opti as well. HTH

Ok, sorry for the double post, was it a Check Guages light or the Service Engine Soon light? On my car, I have the 2 lights. For Check Guages light I would say if it is blinking it is probably either: low oil pressure, rear hatch not closed all the way, or coolant way hot.

For service engine soon, see my previous post.

I think the Check Guages light comes on when the SES light blinks, but I am not positive on that one.

Check gauges comes on when one of the gauge readings is out of normal range (low oil pressure, low voltage, etc.). It means: "Check (look at) the gauges!".

voltage/engine temp/oil pressure all seem to work fine, i did change my oil out to fully synthetic mobile 1 at 10w30 instead of 5w30, and its the little light in the left hand corner not the ses light i have a scan tool for that and it reads that all codes are clear. how about the altenator would that do it the voltage fluctuates sometimes up and down when i rev the engine but it did that way before i was having this problem.

Thanks for the clarification, so if it is a blinking SES light this would not be included in the "blinking check guages". sorry for the first post, doesnt apply.
