This past weekend we had a gathering for a charity event about 30 miles from where I live..All was fine on the drive there but on the way back my Check Engine light ramdomly came on, within driving 10-15 miles it just turned off by itself I haven't scanned for codes yet..just wanted to know if anyone knew or had this happen to them or had an idea of what it might be. My car is a stock 1995 Z28 M6, car ran great to and from the place..

A bad connection to or failing EGR solenoid that controls the vacuum to the EGR valve can cause this.

 

Get that sucker scanned! No use in speculating!

Yes it will. The PCM will only erase stored codes when it is reset (disconnected power).

www.ttspowersystems.com is the most popular. It's what I use for just about everything.

 

The stored code will clear itself after a decent number of "drive cycles" without the same problem recurring. Check for codes ASAP.

This link http://andywhittaker.com/ECU/FreeSca...0/Default.aspx will get you to the Freescan data logging and code reading/clearing pgm. As it's name says, it's free and has no 'number of use' limitations. It only works for OBD1 LT1s which yours and mine are.

 

Thanks guys, I'll check for the codes and and post to see what's up with the car..I haven't had an issue with it since I've owned it..great reliable car..I only use the car 1-2 times every 3-4 months car is done for the year so I'll have lot's of time to get her fixed..

 

Did it stumble when the light came on? I had a problem like this in my 91 camaro. the SES light would come on briefly and go away, usually on rough roads. Come to find out it was a loose ground on the back of the head. Maybe not your problem but it helps to check little things like that.

 

I haven't checked the ground cables but I'll give them a quick look..also It didn't stuble at all when the light came on which is leading me to Emissions related stuff..I still have to scan it haven't had time but I'll get to it this weekend to see what's going on..
