so i dont need shaft mounted rockers? so like normal comp cams or w/e will work? i thought ONLY shaft mount work on afr 227's?

 

Comp's will work. Check AFR website. I have built one doing it that way and no problems. The guideplates are a bitch to get right, but it beats a grand.

 

so what kind of custom work do you have to do to make the comps work?

 

7/16 studs,Isky adj guide plates,and a good quality set of rockers.
Once ya got the plates adjusted mark them and have welded.I used an old head as a jig to hold them while welding,just set them on their marks,tighten studs and weld.Ya might contact AFR to see about their guide plates,They may be a bolt on.
