Changing Spark Plugs With a Lift? Easier?

A friend of mine has use of a hydraulic lift and I'm curious how much time it would take to do a spark plug change on the LT1 with the ease of working underneath. Any ideas guys???

Also, is it worth buying one of those modified sockets from SLP or does someone else sell something like it.

Thanks in advance!

I did it without one of those sockets.

If you can get the Y-pipe off, it frees up a lot of space. (My bolts were too rusty and I didn't want to risk busting them)

You don't really need a lift, but a creeper would be helpful as you will be rolling out from under the car a few times.

If you have access to a lift, by all means, take advantage of it.

well, NOTHING makes them EASY, but certain things make them EASIER. a lift would be one of them. i did mine without that socket, but a buddy of mine has it and it did make his easiery. up to you, i guess. take your time and invest in some mechanic gloves or be prepared for some busted knuckles

Busted knuckles add character. Plus, you don't have "man hands" without cuts bruises and scars.

With stock manifolds, all plugs come from the bottom.

Bingo...
It takes me about 30 minutes to do mine from the bottom on a lift. Worst part is putting the wires on...

Ditto. Take the wheels off too.

you know at first that sounds assinine, but now that I think about it, it may just be easier with them off

I'll have to try that next time...

Or you can turn the ignition on so you turn the wheels. If that is not safe for you have someone in the car turning the wheels.

I don't understand how the wheels interferes with taking the spark plugs out? the only one I have a problem with is the one on the passenger side nearest the firewall and thats because of the small space I have to work in and my big hands.

Anybody with a blower setup knows how much of a pita it is to change wires. AHHHH!!!

I swear that 80% of the scars I have on my hands are thanks to wire and plug changes (or attempts of doing so) on my LT1.
