changed opti now car wont start
changed out my opti last thursday, drove perfectly fine, driving today and it stutters and hesitates and seems like it wants to die, i pull over into a parking lot, and she just wont start. just keeps trying to turn over but cant. had a buddy come take a look at it, has spark, and has fuel. i've had a check engine light for a couple days which would show up like 5-10 seconds after i started the car. checked for any blown fuel related fuses and found nothing. anyone have any idea what it could be? supposed to be driving to new york tomorrow, but now this happened...

Re: changed opti now car wont start
last thursday i put in a brand new delphi optispark, new ngk plugs, and plug wires. pulled one of the plugs off and it was pretty black. think i'm running rich, will have the codes read in the morning, but anyone with any suggestions or ideas as of right now?

Are you sure you indexed the splines on the driveshaft correctly to the teeth in the cam sprocket?
Are you sure you have the plug wires in the correct order?

Did you do any fuel system related work?
More than likely you have a low res failure which is now shutting down the engine. Worth looking at the harness connections for the opti.
If you did not do any fuel system related work, and you say it looks as though it's rich, it must be spark related not burning the fuel completely.
However, if you did something like adding a cleaner to the fuel tank, might want to start there. However, fuel system problems aren't going to set DTC's like the ignition system will.
I'm curious how you know it has codes? A low res failure does not set a SES light. If you have an SES, it's from another code. Although you could have more than one code and one of them could be a low res.
Got to get the codes first.

Re: changed opti now car wont start
before doing the opti i put seafoam in the gas tank and changed my fuel filter. will have the codes read in a couple of hours and will post them up, and the reason i knew i had codes was because my ses light would always come on as i drove around. oh and i think i forgot to mention but we actually did check the opti harness for corrosion etc and it seemed fine. but i do agree, need to get the codes read first, i'll keep u guys updated
