Changed head gasket and now its not starting HELP!!! Newbie...

Ok guys the starter seems to be free spinning and the engine now holding any pressure and it backfires sometimes after trying to crank. could it be the adjustment of the vaves/rocker arms?
thanks in advance

Sounds like it could be the valves. How did you adjust them?

Just by turning the crank from toop dead center and adjusting by feeling the stiffness but i probably overtighten it therefore im not getting compression. its supposed to be 3/4 of a turn after all play is removed at the pushrod?
