CC503 VS CC305 VS Hot Cam, which one, and why?

Which one would you choose and why?

Which makes the most power? Any real difference in peak RPM's?

Which one sounds the meanest at idle? Seems like alot of people are saying the hot cam sounds the best?

Any other comments?

The 503 is a good all around cam, but so are the others. It sounds good at 825 rpm's.

Re: CC503 VS CC305 VS Hot Cam, which one, and why?

Thanks guys.

Im jus ttrying to figure out which cam will give me the best under the curve area (Peak is nice too though) for stock heads. And I dont want a custom grind yet as this is a college buildup until I have the money to bore/stroke/force induction.

I wonder how they sound wiht a little higher idle, closer to stock for a M6 idle speed.

The lope pretty much disappears at 900 on mine. I'm running 1.6 rockers too which makes it a bit "bigger".

Don't mean to high jack the thread, but which one of those cams will work good with nitrous???

97formulakid,

The CC503 would be the best. For N20, its better to have longer exhaust duration than intake, and a wider LSA. the CC503 is 114LSA, the Hot Cam is 112LSA. And over all duration for the CC503 is 224/230, while the hotcam is 218/228. While both will work fine with nitrous, the CC503 is better as it has a better LSA, a little more lift, and more overall duration.

I think I am most likely going to go with a CC503 and spray a 50 shot on it. Either a CC503 or a GM 846. I need to find more out about the 846 though as it is a narrow LSA (112) but is the same duration as the CC503. If they are very similar ramp profiles, the CC503 will make more power on N20, the GM846 will likely have 200 more RPM's to peak power over the 503. Also, the GM846 will lope better at idle due to having a narrow LSA

I think you have the CC503 and the CC305 confused. The 503 has 112LSA and the 305 has a 114LSA. A wider LSA is the correct way to go with nitrous. Taking that into consideration, the stock LT1 cam should work well with a small shot due to the wide LSA. The split on the duration could be better though.

You can get the 503 on a 114 too. It is advertised as a 112 like you said Barry however. The best way to go might be to either get the 503 on a 114 or go with a 224/236 XE grind on a 114. If you only plan to use a 50 shot, the 503 on a 112 will be just fine. I shot a 50 dry shot on mine just for grins, and it took off a half second in the quarter spinning the wheels. It's also fun on the street when you need that extra umph.
You are correct in thinking a nitrous motor needs to have a "nitrous cam" in order to get the most out of a shot, but it will also hurt your all around performance a little. It's like you have to give a little here to get that there. A small shot like a 50 or even 100 will be just fine with the 503 on 112. There is enough duration to get that little extra bit of exhaust out with no problem.
