Re: Cc503

Does the cc503 cam need a bigger than stock stall? Also...I've never really understand what the stall does...so...what does it do and why do people need a bigger one.

Anywho, back to topic, who ever has that grey Z28

Re: Cc503

In plain English, this is what a stall does. Lets say you have a 2800 stall. When you mash the gas, the RPMs will instantly jump to 2800. You need a bigger stall with bigger cams because they make power higher up in the RPM range.

Re: Cc503

On a 350, I would like to see at least a 3200 stall with this cam. This is a good daily driver cam but it tends to be more toward the performance side in my opinion. The idle can be turned up a bit to get rid of most of the lope but I like mine at 825. Vacuum is adequate - no prob there. A cc 305 would be a bit better for daily driving without much power loss up top. The 305 would be good with a 2800 stall.

Re: Cc503

So it's not going to ruin the engine if you don't have a stall. It would just kind of...be chuggish or something till it got to its operating range? I don't want to pull the tranny, AND buy a new stall, just because I have a bigger cam.

Re: Cc503

make sure you get a stall, and gears. mine was still pretty sluggish down low with a 2800 stall and 3.23 gears. it was much better with 3.73 gears...got into the power band much quicker.

Re: Cc503

I hear 3.23's are like the "happy medium" gear...not too low, not too high...still sluggish, in what respect?

Re: Cc503

I'm sold on this cam now. I compared it to a Hotcam on desktop dyno and the hp and tq numbers from 1500-3500 barely favored the hotcam. Looks like the 503 isn't a dog down low, what kind of peak RPM are you guys with 350s looking at?

Do you have a bigger than stock stall?

My car right now kind of seems like it'll slowly climb to 6k RPMs until it hits 3500 or so, then it just takes off. And if the cc503 power band is from 1500-5800 or whatever, than why should I need a bigger stall? The stock stall is good for 1500 ain't it?

EDIT: Just out of quick curiousity, I was looking at this cmotorsports cam

TN-221XL 221/227 duration, .542"/.560", 112lsa

Does anyone think that will need a stall? I kind of take it injectors are a must on almost any upgraded cam.

Re: Cc503

i have a westcoastconverter 10" 2800 stall,

they are on e-bay and i highly recomend them, they have exellent cust service and the guy that builds the coverter actually calls you to get your car details before he builds it, it was shipped out when he said and the quality was awsome

Re: Cc503

Still comes down to me not wanting to take the tranny out just to put in a bigger stall, plus, spend that much more. I mapped out how much this is going to cost, and so far it is around 700, if you include the stall now.

EDIT: That's hard on a college type budget.
