I think this is going to be a good lesson for you , that cam is one of the biggest off the shelf cams there is and sounds wicked too it will spin the motor to 7 grand if you let it, I shift at 63-65k depending on what gear i'm in but i also have a billit cam with comp pacaloy springs with a open psi of 410lbs to keep my valves from floating and a complete forged bottom end to handle 800 hp for nitrous, that cam doesnt kick in until 3k and if you dont have a stall its a turd off the line compared to what it can do ,basically you bought a race cam and put it in a stock motor, if I were you iwould buy a 6al and put a 6k chip in it cause without ported heads, injectors, and a proper tune you just have a good sounding car

i shifted mine at 6800...but i only ran 11.90/12.0 on motor...with stock heads and bottom end...

that cam will peak around 6400 with stock cubic inches...youll need to shift at least 6500...prolly 6600-6700...mine lasted over 15k miles spinning it that high...my motor had about 10k on it when i cammed it...

Mine was still going strong at 6500 on the dyno. It did not drop until I hit the 6500 rev limiter so I raised it to 6800.

Just to make this perfectly clear.
The issue is not the block itself the issue is the rotating assembly the bearings in particular and they most certainly can have problems is revved too high.
As said some are luckier than others, last year I lost a shortblock to bearings, put in a mild cam at 65K and then the current heads and cam at 95K and blew about 101-102K, I had not take the precaution of using a white spring though and I have since been enlightened a little. Someone suggested that stock springs with 10 years and untold number of heat cycles can get weak and not deliver proper pressure which is the real reason to consider a white spring, more because it is a new piece rather than the pressure increase.

Current motor has fourty someodd thousand miles on it, the last several thousand with this heads and cam, I did put a white spring in it and no sparkly oil yet, no idea how long it will or wont last.

I keep my motor below 6500 even during the shifts.

If that your old setup or new? You gotta convert that sig to 1/4 mile, I dont drive a Eagle Talon

The stock bottom end is a mystery....there is no real consistant result after 6k...some people swear 6500 RPMs does nothing to it, others worship the idea not to rev past 6100 - 6200. My theory is unless your are THAT confident in your bottom end and how its been cared for, dont spin past 6200. If that wont due for you and the setup you want, then i would recommend you build your bottom end with quality parts that can take the abuse, and then spin as high as you want (or as high as you built it for). This way, there is no questioning yourself or the structure of the setup, and you should be able to drive it like you want to.
just my 2cents

CC306 and ported heads here. Cam went in at about 75k miles, heads went on at 90k. Currently at 95k and just added a 100 shot so we'll see how it lasts now. Cam only i shifted at 6300ish, shifting at 6700 with the heads, and 6000 on the juice.
