CC306 designs?

I've read on this thread about different CC306 designs/versions, is this true? If so, what is the difference? I got mine in 2001. Thanks!

You can get different LSA's but a CC306 is a CC306, if you vary it you are changing the part itself from an off the shelf cam to a slighty different cam. Unless I am wrong on this one. Anyone else?

I've read someone ask about having a short or long pin/dowel on a CC306?

No you have to cut the pin to fit your application.

Do a search for a guy named shoebox and then look at his cam install page.

Re: CC306 designs?

Ramiro don't worry about the cam dowel pin issue unless you are having a recurring problem with your opti. The 95+ cams come with a longer dowel pin then 93 and 94's. The only way you will have a problem is if the pin is too long and I would think you would be able to tell if the pin was too long if you opti did not fit flush with the timing cover. If you ordered the right cam you should not have to cut the pin to fit your application, thats BS. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I would say it rarely happens.

Wow! Now that you metioned it, we did have a real hard time putting my new opti on a few months ago. I still think it wasn't flush with my cover. What would this cause?

Re: CC306 designs?

Most likely you do not have the dowel pin in the right hole or not in a hole at all. The opti can seem like it is all the way on, but it will end up being about a 1/8" from being flush with the timing cover. If it is not completely flush with no effort whatsoever then you probably do not have the opti on the car correctly. It will end up heating the bearing in the opti and it will eventually kill it and possibly melt your connector.

Re: CC306 designs?

Look at your cam card.

Mine is a 229/245 instead of the advertised 230/244. Whoopie!

I'm going LE3 next anyway.

I am also looking at getting a different cam too. The GM847 or a bigger custom cam. Any ideas? The new heads I installed were matched to a GM847 and made good #s.

I think your wrong. Everyone i've known has had to cut their pin. I wouldn't want a cam company to screw up and cost me $250.

Everyone I know has NOT had to cut their pin. I personally have had 3 cams and all were great. I think the people you know simply think they are too long and cut them for no reason. Then again, maybe they some how got longer pins then they should have or they just botched the opti install. Did they measure from the face of the cam to the farthest point inside the hole for the opti pin?

Ramiro, the 306 will work fine. I think the heads that you have are holding you back. Get some heads from LE and you should put down some better numbers. The 847 will make similar power, but have better midrange and low rpm drivability than the 306 IMO.

No one i know has destroyed an opti because we were all aware of this. We just measured the cams with the new one next to the old one. I'd say each cam needed at least 1/8"-1/4" taken off. If you get the opti one hole off most of the time the car won't even run so it really doesn't give it much of a chance to destroy the opti.

Re: CC306 designs?

Kreinmc,

I got the heads from Ebay for a great price. They looked real good even though he had no flow #'s. The ports are HUGE! He told me they flowed 28X/205 @ .600. They were on a Vette with the GM847 and put down 425RWHP in CA. I just might get a bigger cam to see what it does!
