How would the 306 cam work in an internally stock motor?

Re: Cc306

yes it'd "work" but you'd want some tuning done afterwards along with a 3200 stall converter. AND you'd have to rev that motor higher than you'd probably want on a stock motor, that is if you want to get the most potential outa it...

It works quite nice yes, been there done that. Got into the 12s spun 2 rod bearings.

Needs tuning, needs a stall if an auto, gears are recommended too.

Valve springs should also be considered when using that cam.Ive been running mine for almost 2 years without any trouble on the stock bottom end.

Re: Cc306

My tranny is out of commission right now, so the shop wants me to get their equivalent of the pro built so i can get whatever stall i need put into it. The reason I asked about the 306 cam is because a buddy is selling it and wanted to know if i wanted it, he is also selling fully ported heads with all new pieces but i have to buy a trans so i cant buy those now. If i dont go with the 306 then what cam is recommended for that I am running?

Re: Cc306

Lol, I would suggest the gm847
But if you were to do it right I would say LE heads and cam.

Be careful of friends with fully ported heads. Have them checked out by a pro before giving any money. Suggestion, say he wants $1000 for them, say you will pay $1000 if he pays to have them checked out and they meet your expectations.

The buddy is an engine builder for a local shop and he just checked them and put new springs and such into them, but thats a whole nother deal and money i cant spend right now.

Id go H/C but moneys tight with the tranny issue and I was looking to just doing a cam before winter.

Re: Cc306

if you can get a good price on the 306 i'd take it. i have it in my 383 and it's a little lower than i expected. but i could imagine that cam with some good springs/rockers and a good tune...
