catch/overflow can
catch/overflow can
well ive done the vertical rad mod. with the griffin 25241 rad. i removed the stock ugly coolant bottle battery holder deal. relocated the battery to the trunk so that corner is pretty much empty. i explained this to the summit sales man and told him i needed a can to replace that, and he sold me this one

will this work for what i need? i believe what i need is a recirculating can? maybe im wrong, im kinda mixed up on this one. does the stock bottle just act as an overflow or does it re-circulate coolant? he said this one would recirculate the coolant by using vacuum, but idk how thats going to work, i tought it would have to have a tube inside, but i dont think it does.... anyone help me out on this one?

That looks like a can that catches the overflow, and is then drained with the petcock at the bottom. You need a can with the overflow reaching all the way to the bottom, always submerged in coolant, so the radiator vacuum can pull coolant back in when the system cools down.
I only assumed it doesn't have a siphon tube because it doesn't mention one. If you verify it has no tube, you could screw the elbow with the nipple for the overflow into the bottom hole, and attach the overflow hose there. Screw the petcock into the top hole, and leave it part way open to allow the tank to "breath" as it filsl with coolant, and then dumps the coolant back into the radiator.
All this assumes you will be installing the overflow tank below the top of radiator level. That's when you need the siphon tube, or plumb it upside down.

haha wow, i actually just thought of mounting it upside down today, and figured id ask here, the whole can should be below the top of the rad, so there would be no problems with mounting it upside down? thanks for the help
The bottom connection for the overflow tube has to be below the coolant level in a full radiator. You will also have check the can somehow, to insure it always has some coolant in it, or you run the risk of pulling air back into the radiator.
