catalytic converter ?

OK! i have a 1995 camaro z28. v8

i went to have the inspection done, but it failed.

It failed thanks to the HC. So they guy said it was the catalytic converter.

today i went and asked one of my friends about it and they said the catalytic converter had a lique. i was WTH. the catalytic converter was $170.

So now i have to take my car back to get it fixed. What should i do?

Get a new exhuast kit? or i dont know what to do so i can pass the inspection state test.

You might want to have the car diagnosed, it could have failed for other reasons beyond the converter. I wouldn't take the inspectors word for it. However, if your cat does have a leak, that is technically a violation as well since your exhaust system cannot have any leaks in it. I'm not sure what kind of cat you were looking at, but you can pick up a Carsound Magnaflow cat for much cheaper then 170 dollars.

the new catalytic converter has a leak. in other words they are the ones who put the new cat. should they be the ones to fix it? i think they should, but im so pissed at them. they dont even know how to weld correctly they did a bad job with it. so i dont know what to do about it.

Yeah, they should be liable if it is due to poor welding. I would take it back.

they said something about the gas is not being passed correctly like its not being burned correct or something. i think i might go and get it diagnosed.

sounds like o2 sensors to me...but if you dont have a light on you cant' really tell without running a test. do you have any ses lights on? you could pay a shop to run an engine on diagnosis. that's expensive though.

"HC" = unburned hydrocarbons (aka "gasoline"). How did it do on CO and NOx? Generally, if its running rich, it will be high on both HC and CO. If its something like a leaking injector, it will just be high on HC.
