what would cause the counter weights to rub the block?

I replaced the timing chain a few months ago. did I reinstall the crank spocket too far?
The crank is rubbing on the block. it feels very tight and is hard to move to check the end play.

any ideas would help, rob

As far as i know, you cant install the crank sproket too far. What is the end play? Can you visually see the counter weights rubbing the block?

Yes, there is a very loud grinding noise when the engine is hot. you can see where the counter weights are rubbing. When it is first started, there isn't any noise. oil pressure is fine. I took everything apart looking for the grinding noise. I first thought it was the new oil pump that I installed. I thought that hte oil pump drive shaft was too long. I notice the crank seemed off set. it is being pushed to the trans.

between the counter weights, the block and the main caps. it seems like the thrust surface of the trust main bearing failed. I'm not sure. I only removed the pan and oil pump, so far.

If you beat the hub on with hammer and block of wood like many people like to suggest, you could have damaged the thrust bearing.

I used damper press and puller. It is a high mileage motor with 184,000.

Just throwing out possibilities, since you said the timing chain work was recent. I guess you better check out that thrust bearing anyway.

If the crank is moving way back in the block to rub a counterweight your thrust bearing is GONE!
