cat convertor problems

cat convertor problems

i have recently lost some power in my car. i heard a rattling noise coming from underneath. i have been told it's my cat converter. i want to know should i replace it or get it cut out. and if i do get it cut out how do i avoid having the engine light go on? thanks for the help!

I'm guessing you have a 93-95 since you're talking about one cat. If you remove it, you won't get a light.

Well, I never heard of anyone running a cat on one side and no cat on the other. I'd recommend removing both if one of them is bad. Or replace the bad one with a new cat.
As for the light, you could either have it reprogrammed or buy an o2 simulator.

ok i would remove them on both sides but i live in canada so i don't know if it could be reprogrammed here?

If you remove them you can just put some O2 simulators on the back two O2 sensors, you don't need to get your computer reprogrammed. It will just send a signal to the computer saying that the cats are still there.
