Car's done ... i hope
Car's done ... i hope
ok so after about 3 and a half months my car is done or will be tomorrow.
I am less then impressed with them at the time it took and in some ways less then impressed with some of the things they didnt take my advice on and i dont know about the cam. As far as I can tell it hasnt been used all that often in other cars. Could someone tell me if this cam is gona be noticable. Im glad they didnt go huge but i think they undershot the cam size by a little even for a daily driver.

Can I guess you don't have a sniffer in Nebraska?
Sniffer would be the only reason to consider that and even then I would call it a grossly outdated and misinformed choice.
A LOT of shops still believe the computer can't handle overlap and that is why they go so wide on the LSA. Thing is the computer can't handle overlap idea is based on the OLD TBI stuff. A LOT of us are running much larger duration and lift cams down in the 108-110 LSA range. The overlap allows the exhaust pulse to pull more fresh air into the chamber.
Honestly I bet you would have been at least as well off or better off with a ZZ4 crate motor cam(208/221 .474/.510 112), those a dirt cheap, still pass emissions. I had one with exhaust manifolds on my car and it was mellow enough to be mistaken for stock by other gearheads, once I put headers on those who know engines could hear it.
That cam will perform better than stock, and will be mild enough to drive just like stock so long as the car is tuned vaguely well.

Re: Car's done ... i hope
what were u wanting, that cam doesnt seem like its tiny. its not huge. but personally, i will say that i drove my car stock and got the idea that bigger is always better, got a cam that was just barely too big, and hated the car, almost sold it 3 times....then i finally tore down my pride and bought a "smaller" cam and now i love the way this thing drives.

Re: Car's done ... i hope
nebraska has no sniffer/inspection/anything. lol ... and you know i was just looking for more power as a daily driver im betting this cam will do just fine as i put more thought into it but i just dont want to be left wanting more so to say. ive drove my brother in law's camaro and its pretty fun to drive (roughly 325rwhp). I guess i just dont wana be let down by this build. Although i do remember driving my 94 when it was stock and i really hope it'll wake it up!
On another note i dont have a stall or gears yet. what would you guys recommend? Would it benefit from bigger injectors?
its gonna be my dd threw rain snow and shine till this summer when i can afford another vehicle to be my beater

that is what i ment by they didnt take my advice and use it... hence why im questioning the cam... i just dont know what to expect now out of it and im slightly worried. but on the other hand it'll probably be atleast a little better then stock... i hope.

Re: Car's done ... i hope
It's not clear to me what they did to the car over the 3.5 month period. Is it something in excess of what you list in your signature, or as "soon to come"?
Re: Car's done ... i hope
Didn't take your advice? Who was in control of the build, you or them? That cam is kinda small in comparison to most used, but anything will be some increase in power. Some 1.6 rockers will help. It will probably feel fairly stock-ish at idle.

they did a complete overhaul on it.. bored the block and cleaned up the stock crank and heads, put in new stock rods and pistons and put in the cam, new push rods, springs, and roller rockers.... idk just seems like a long time just to rebuild an engine.
Shoebox:
it was a combination of the 2. I had a part in it as I showed him a lot of things about what the computer could handle cause he told me what he knew about an LT1 and i used a lot of your stuff and others to fill in the gaps so to say. With that said we picked out a cam from crane that i asked about on here and ppl said would be a good one. They promptly decided not to use that cam because the computer supposedly couldnt handle it and thats what they came up with (note this is after i showed them the stuff it could handle). they did put new rr in it but ill have to ask what ratio they are... i said i wanted 1.6's but I dont think thats what they put in there. Ill ask tomorrow. Like i said im not happy about the way this was done.... just hope it works out.

Re: Car's done ... i hope
Well ive had the car for about a week and so far so good. I guess my fears of it not holding up to my expectations are prettymuch gone. The car pulls really hard off the line but there is a little to be desired on the top end still. I price checked the K&N kit and im going to put on the cutout and cut the cat soon. Will this help out the top end any?
