carburator and heads

I am getting ready to start building an engine to stick in my 93 Z, and I have already decided to go with a carburator. Please, don't critisize me or turn this into another battle between EFI and carb. I haven't yet decided to use a gen 1 block or an LT1. I want to leave my LT1 in for now until I stick the new engine in, so I will be starting fresh.
I know there are a lot more options when using a gen 1 block, but will it work with my t56? Also, for simple parts such as oil pan/ electric water pump/ headers, will they work on a gen 1 block?
If I use an LT1 block, I know all parts will match up and interchagne with my car now. Head choices will be limited, I know trick flow has a set for LT1, but does anyone else? Would a blower work on an LT1? I would rather use an LT1, but choices are almost limitless with a gen 1. Can anyone give me their opinions?
This car is not a daily driver. I don't care about gas mileage. This is going to be a cammed up 383 used for Sunday drives and quarter mile passes. I may put a blower on it later and possibly run nitrous. Again, I have already decided on carb and not EFI. Thanks.

A gen 1 SBC will fit into your Camaro, and the 6 speed will bolt up. As far as the blower on an LT1 goes, a centrifugal blower such as a Vortech or ATI will work with a carb bonnet, but an old school roots type blower will not work AFIK.

Why are you so set on using a carb anyways?

actually a roots type blower will work, or can be made to work because i've seen it (theres a pro street 94 t/a with an 8-71 on it somehwere). however anything like the 8-71 blowers will require you to cut the cowl up and part of the windshield. it'd have to be a small blower to avoid that and likely wouldnt produce anymore than 5-7lbs of boost without excessive pulley ratios. as for the block i'd probably use the gen 1 lot of good heads right out of the box there and a lot easier intake options too, but with that type of setup almost nothing is going to clear the hood, and you'll probably have to cut the cowl anyway to use a traditional hei type distributor.

A small cap or crab style distributor will clear the cowl without having to cut into it. He would be able to adjust timing, but not pull the distributor all the way out without dropping the motor or hacking into the cowl though.

Thanks for the help. Does anyone know abouty headers or the oil pan? Both are brand new, although I would like to have long tubes. I am still leaning towards a gen one block because mainly of the head and intake options, but it would be very nice to be able to steal parts off my LT1 when needed to cut down on costs. If I decide on a gen 1 block, then I might go bigger on the cubes. I like the roots type blowers but I have heard that centrifugal blowers go on much neater and seem to be the way to go in f bodies.

mrz- That would be tempting to me in a few months, but I still don't have the block yet and I'm not sure yet. I will keep it in mind for later if you still have it, but it seems like a good deal.

97ws6- I know more about carburators than EFI and I think that it is so much simpler. The car is going to be a 93 car, but it will be actually more like a 60's or 70's muscle car or like a pro touring car. I have never seen a 4th generation with a carb, other than a big block car, and one that was strictly for the strip. This is going to be a fun car and I don't know why but I like carbs better. Every problem I have had with my Z has been with the ignition and computer (except for a broken rear end and a cracked exhaust manifold, but that was a good excuse for headers and 3.73s)

Thanks again for the help. Does anyone else have opinions on the block?

head & intake options for Gen 1

You can take any sbc intake and just re drill the bolt holes in the heads to match the Gen1 intake on Gen 2 heads.
And as for heads AFR makes the same heads for Gen2 as for Gen 1 so your choices are limitless there as well.
