Question Car wont start Need help A.S.A.P S.O.S

I hope someone on here can help me i have a 97 camaro ss . It all started 3 weeks ago when my Check engin light came on code "P0336" Crankshaft postion sensor A, circuit range/performance. I ignored it for a few days till everytime i tried to earse the code it kept coming back. I went to autozone bought a new one and it kept doing the same thing, So i thought it was a bad sensor so exchanged it for a new one till last WEDNESDAY driving home the car was acting up and when i pulled into my neighborhood about 3/4 a mile from my house the car just died while driving. Im not a mechanic so i wasnt sure what it was. I do know its not the BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, STARTER. Yesterday I bought a new CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR from NAPA I check everything i could with my eyes on the engine yestury put the new sensor in and the car STILL WONT START.... it cranks and seems like theres power but it wont start... I NEED HELP BIG TIME..... does anyone here have any ideas about this or has had this problem happen to them. Any help will be greatful thank you

First you need make sure you have spark and fuel and go from there depending on which you don't have. If you have no fuel, could be pump. If you have no spark, could be your opti-crap is boogered.

If you need to have it diagnosed, take it to a reputable dealer to at least get a diagnosis. It will cost you for the diagnosis, but you don't have to have them work on the car if you can do it yourself. JMHO

Yeah the OPTI is about 6 - 7 months old. When you say check for fuel how do you go about doing that. I changed out the fuel filter few months back its a cheap part should i try to replace that ? or is it the fuel pump which will cost an arm and a leg to fix eek

BTW, I don't know how important crank position sensor is on the lt1---I'm sure someone else will help you there----but I had a sensor go bad on a bronco I had, and it acted the same---it just would not start.

Of course one thing you need to remember is just when did the problem happen, asking yourself what might have caused it. E.g. bad water pump could leak on opti-spark and booger it. It is one thing to have a car run badly and another to have it not start at all.

When you say that it is not your battery, I assume that you are certain that it is not your battery. Just checking. You want to elilminate the easy stuff first before you have it towed to the dealer. The reason I suggest the dealer, is that they are supposed to at least have the proper procedures and tools to do the diagnosis, whereas a shade tree mechanic may just be guessing and may hold you for ransom unless you have him/her do the work.

Brand new battery put in yesturday. See the thing i hate about taking my car to a place to work on it they usually screw you... labor is usually $60.00 + an hour to work on. And ive worked at a car dealership before and i have friends who work there and they will tell a customer we pro rate things example

It will take 4-5 hours to work on your car/part yet they get it done in 1-2 hours and they will still charge you for 4-5 hours. EEK

Try doing the basics yourself to get an idea. Grab a fuel pressure gauge and check to see where its at. If everything is okay pull a sparkplug wire and ground it to the block and see if there is spark. Check the coil, ICM. Is your waterpump leaking through the weephold on the bottom of it? That would cause the opti to fail (happened to me). Most of this stuff is easy to do. Good luck!

I am 99% sure the CPS is not the reason the car is not starting.

Check all your fuses, can you hear the fuel pump prime when you tune the key to Acc?
Check for spark at the plug wire and if their is none check for it at the coil.

On most engines, the CKP sensor is used to set the ignition timing - no sensor, no fire. On the LT1, its only used to detect misfires.... has nothing to do with the ignition timing. Engine will run fine without it.... eg - 93-95 models don't even have one. It was only added in 96/97 for OBD-II misfire requirements.
