Car won't start, just clicks???
Well, yesterday after filling up with gas, my car decided not to start. It would just make the clicking sound of the magnet or whatever in the solenoid pulling. I figured the started was bad, so I took it off and brought it in, but it worked perfect when they tested it.
Before I took it off, I tried to start it at night with someone watching the headlights, and they didn't dim or anything. Then today I checked the power wire that runs to the starter and it looked fine, as far as I could tell. I also tried to start it again when it was cold, because that is usually a sign of a starter going, if it starts cold but not when hot, but I still got nothing. Is there anything else I could check? It doesn't seem like it, because the power wire runs straight from the battery to the starter right?

Sounds like you have a dead spot on the starter.
It will start fine 9 times out of 10 and then stop once on the dead spot and won't start until it gets off the dead spot.
You have to keep trying and clicking until the starter moves off the dead spot.

so its not your fuel system
its not your motor
Your lights dont dim so its not your battery
If it was your theft deterent there would be no clicking.
It clicks... which happens when the starter is bad or juice isnt getting to the starter..
Take off the batter cables and check for resistance on them.
Change the starter...
Those are the only things i can think off.

make sure the ground wire on the starter is a good connection...had one go bad from being old on a different car (not a camaro) and once we replaced the connection on the ground it worked fine
could be the whole starter though

Okay, the starter was checked today and worked fine. Now, I pulled the wire that goes to the starter up to where I could see all of it, and it didn't have more than the normal resistance. So then we hooked it up to the starter outside of the car, put a jumper cable from the - on the bat. to the outside of the starter, then connected the two posts on the starter, and now it works fine. So I am going to go put it in now, and if it doesn't work then, I'm getting the BFH out to solve the problem
I guess there was just a bad connection, since all the terminal were kinda corroded. I sanded everything down so it better work now.

i have an M6 and sometimes my car won't start because the clutch position sensor is intermittent.
if you reach up behind the clutch, there is a large rectangular plastic button that the clutch pedal arm depresses........once a week or so my car wont start and i have to reach down and wiggle that button around a little bit and keep trying until it starts, then it will be fine again for awhile.
one day when im not busy ill replace it

Yeah, you're right shoebox. There are no ground wires on the starter, but I see how someone could get confused, since there is a little wire that looks like it goes away from the starter.
But now everything is hooked up and it works. I guess there was just a lot of corrosion on the terminal or something, because it works fine now. There also may have been some dirt or something in the solenoid that I broke loose by removing the starter.

Its possible that it was corrosion. I would lean more towards a dead spot in the starter. I had alot of prblems with starters on my car. It might act up and not start. Then I would leave it sit and it would work. Sometimes. Keep an eye on it. If its starts acting up again, replace it. Make sure you get a ACDELCO starter. All the other remans are JUNK. Trust me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you get clicks at the starter if the clutch switch is not working.

mike
mine would click usually only when it rained or was high humidity and it ended up being a bad connection from the starter solenoid to the starter. The connection had gotten so bad it partially melted the nut on the solenoid.
