Car won't start help

My security light had been on for a month and I just ignored it until today when my car would not start. I tried to bypass the VATS by putting together resistors using this method http://vats.likeabigdog.com/. Well the security light is now off but my car won't crank. The gauges on my dash light up and my fuel pump turns on but when I turn the key nothing happens. Anyone input?

If by nothing happens you mean it doesn't even turn over I would check the battery cable connections, clutch interlock switch located on the clutch pedal and the starter.

Yea the pellet on my key was 11.8k ohms and my resistors that I made only added to 11.564k ohms...maybe that is the problem

I don't think it is the battery cable connections b/c my dash lights up, and how do I go about checking the clutch interlock switch and starter?

Re: Car won't start help

you need to check if the starter is getting good signal (when you turn the key) and has good power and ground.

Re: Car won't start help

If it was starting and now the starter won't even turn the most likely cause, and easiest thing to check, is the battery connections. The fact that your dash lights work doesn't mean you have a good connection.

i agree because my car had the same issue it turns out it was a ground around the starter wire that had a broken terminal good luck

Re: Car won't start help

There is a fairly wide tolerance on the resistor value. Look at Shoebox's guide:

http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#pass_key

You are within the tolerance.

Pull the cables off the battery, and look for corrosion, both on the faces of the terminals/wires and inside the ends of the wire. Check the 12V cable at the starter.

Re: Car won't start help

Before you go to the shop check the ignition switch. Exact same thing happened to me. Pretty sure you can buy one and try and if thats not it return it. I've done that sort of thing a few times at Canadian Tire.

The ignition switch is way down on the steering column its not where you put your keys in. I think shbox has it on his site.

Re: Car won't start help

Turned out to be a bad starter...didn't think it would be since the starter was only 3 months old, but I'm lucky I got it tested before I took it to the mechanic.
