Car wont start, Good Fuel

Re: Car wont start, Good Fuel
Pay attention to the color of the spark as well, if its a pale yellow and neither blue nor white, it is very weak. Remember there is compression the spark has to jump in inside the cylender , it needs to be very strong to work good.

Re: Car wont start, Good Fuel
Ok went out and took a look, instead of going ahead and checking the spark, I attempted to start it, and it fired right up. I let it sit there and idle for about 15 mins and it was pretty much flawless except a little fluid and smoke coming from the exhaust every now and then. It idled at a solid 800-900 and seemed great. I then decided to give it a little test drive since I did reconnect all ignition wires, and I thought that would make a difference. I proceeded up my hill and onto a side road, it was running, but when I put the car in drive the RPMs immediatly dropped to around 500 and even lower sometimes at idle. It seemed to be doing "OK" but felt like it was lacking major power. I then decided to see how it acted at WOT, pedal to the metal and at about 50mph, boom, car dies and starts coasting. All the way down the hill it back fireed although the car wasnt on, it was just coasting. After about 5-6 back fires, I coasted to a stop. It wouldn't start back up and since its a couple roads from my house, AAA is on its way over to tow it.
So, does this sound like the Optispark? Fuel is perfect, and thats about the only thing I can think of.

I have a 95 vented laying around I just pulled off my old engine.. Rebuilt from the Napa 120 kit has ~ 17,000 miles on it since rebuildd... I could do 75 bux + shipping if it would help you any? (guys if that sounds unreasonable let me know what its worth.)

Re: Car wont start, Good Fuel
Im pretty sure ive narrowed it down to the opti. I have a 94 unvented which means I would have to spend alot more money converting to the 95 vented version, thanks anyway tho man. I am sure you will have no problem selling it at that price.
BTW: 10457702 is the correct P/N for a non-vented opti, correct?

Re: Car wont start, Good Fuel
lol, thats one of the reasons I still have it... I just put a 94 engine in with a nonvented.
I put that number in on GMpartsdirect and got
Fits 92-94 Corvette and 93-94 Camaro, Firebird and Trans Am. Without vent
Should be the right one man.

No problem. Keep in mind it may not solve the problem.. but its a pretty good bet at this point. It may prove to be worth the time to pull the opti off and pull it apart before you order one.

Re: Car wont start, Good Fuel
I know it may not fix the problem, but like you said, its a pretty good bet that it is the problem. But, as I see, the engine has 75K on it, its gonna need a new 1 sooner or later anyway.. why not get it out of the way.
