Car wont start

Alright here's my situation. Since I bought my car back in January, the security light has been lit up on the dash and always stayed on while driving. I've never had any problems with the car not starting or acting up because of it. I also have 2 sets of keys as well.

So tonight out of no where my ignition just locked up completely. I put the key in and nothing, wouldnt turn at all, wouldnt do anything . I have no idea what happened it just crapped out on me. no security light either, no anything. i couldnt turn the key at all. so now my car is sitting in a random parking lot and i cant move it... and of course it happened on a night when i was taking this girl out for the first time. talk about bad timing.

(i also tried disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes to see if anything would happen, but no luck)

WHAT DO I DO??

Re: Car wont start

Can you turn the key the oposite direction back towards you? I had the steering wheel turned and when I went to start, I had to move it the other direction a little to release the tension. Have you tried both keys?

Will the steering wheel move at all? Sounds like the steering wheel is locked in place. Turn the steering wheel to the left slightly and try to turn the key, this should unlock everything.

If it was the ignition switch your would be able to turn the key, it just wouldn't do anything.

I guess there is also a possibility that the tumbler is actually stuck in place as well, but not the ignition switch.

You can see by the result that it can be the switch. It can get burnt, melted and jammed up and won't move.

Re: Car wont start

yea i pulled it out and it was burnt, locked up the key completely. so happy to have it fixed, had to do it all in the dark haha. Only now my car pulls to the left a little worse than it used to. could this be from removing the steering column and having it in just a little crooked?

I would go over it again when its light out Sounds like you just need to make a minor adjustment or figure out whats out of wack.
