Car won't start

Ugh went to start my car this morning, put the key in, and all my intertior, exterior lights and my cd-deck work no problem. I turned the key to start and all the lights flicker and I just hear a sound like something is grinding. ANd car wont start >.< So I charged the battery to full, went to start, and it does the exact same thing. Its weird that all my lighting works fine, headlights and radio and stuff but it just wont start up
The battery is only a month old. Its a 96 z28 with 143k on it.

I didnt get a chance to check for error codes cause I had to use another car to get to work, but was wondering when I get home where should I look first for problems?

Thanks!

Check the connections to the battery are clean and tight; also verify the ground cable to the engine block and positive cable to the starter and clean and tight.

I double checked those when I was fiddling with stuff this morning. It is probably most likely the starter, cause its like a grinding sound when I go to start it, not like a typical "chk chk chk chk" sound.

If hook up a OBDII reader, will the starter throw an error code?

Re: Car won't start

if the starter is the issue i dont think it will throw a code. this sounds like a very similar problem i was having with my car... i would go to start have full power, then when it went to crank all i heard was a clicking/grinding sound coming from the passanger floor area... turned out my starter was totally fried, so i replaced the entire thing, solenoid and all... fixed it... try giving power straight to the starter itself and if its grinds you will know that its the starter giving you the issue...

hope this info helps. good luck
