Car thrwoing Belts..

I recently did a alternator relocation on my car and belt that the kit said to use, would fit, but was soo loose that it would throw it. The next belt size down is now too tight, and the car wants to throw it. (It's putting too much pressure on the tensioner) What are my options? Can a belt be cut and shortened? Or can I take the tight belt and try and stretch it?

I was thinking about hanging the tight belt, and then taking my old car battery and trying to stretch it. I would think that 50 pounds would have some kind of effect on the lengh, and I probably only need 1/2" or room.

I think both belts are with in 1.5" of each other.

Measure It, Go To Your Local Gm Dealer And Get One Using Your Measurements As A Guide. The Counter Guys Can Go To The Belts And Grab Em By Length, Not Just Part Numbers. Ps Its In Metric.

Any decent parts guy will be able to get you a belt somewhere in between the 2. If the guy asks you what it fits get someone else You can buy the goodyear green stripe series in about 1/8 inc increments. (3 MM). Streaching really never works get the right belt and write the size down somewhere under the hood so you know what it is next time.
