Help plz...my car won't go in any gear...

I started my car yesterday and put it in reverse and backed out. It went in fine. When i tried to take it out of reverse it got sort of stuck. But i was able to put it in 1st gear and then drive to my girlfriends house. When i got there i put it in neutral and went inside. When we were leaving i started the car and i tried to put it in reverse and nothing. It wouldn't let me put it in reverse. So i tried to put it in 1st and it wouldn't let me go in that either. So i tried every gear and it wouldn't go in any of them. It doesn't grind or anything it just won't go in now matter how hard i push. I turned off the car and it let me go into 3rd gear but that was about it. I tried several times and it just won't go into any gear. Anybody have any ideas on what this could be. I don't have any other transportation right now so i need to get my car back on the road as fast as possible. Thanks.

What do you mean what have i done with the car? It was just parked at work all day until i got in it to go to my girlfriends house. I put it in reverse no problem. But then when i tried to take it out of reverse it didn't wanna come out. But i got it out at put it into 1st gear then started to take off. Drove normally though the gears(it felt sort of notchy though) i took it though 1st - 4th gear. Then i put it in neutral when i parked. When i got back in it, it wouldn't go in any gear at all.

Get up under the car and see if the slave cylinder (mounted to the bell housing) is moving when the clutch pedal is pushed in. If not then is either the slave or master cylinder.

Just asking.. there's a lot of things it can be...trying to pinpoint. How do things feel in the neutral zone? Can you slide around freely? Can you hear any metal clinging? Do you find a heavy resistance when trying to get your car into any gears? You say you can get your car into some gears... Do these gears require an extra "umph" to get into? How does your clutch feel...? Is it releasing properly? A jacked up slave cylinder, or sh1tty fork can cause these problems too. Don't rule those out either. but I'd check those first... becasue if it's not them more than likely it's take aprat T-56 time.

You'd be surprised... things like most things on the LT can sneak right up on you. Just make sure you give a full detail of what happend to your car previously before the problem. THat can help out allot to. Like if you were ripping through gears or something it could be as easy as a shifter rail or bent gear fork. But you were just driving normal... so it might not be one of those things and probably isn't. Just lift your car up and pull the Slave clinder our... wiggle the fork to make sure it's on tight and do what the other guy said to check the Slave cylinder...

Good luck... T-56's are pretty cheap & easy to work on. So don't sweat it just yet.

Yeah it moves freely in neutral. I can only put it in 3rd gear but only when the car is off not while it is on. My slave and master cylinder are pretty new. Only have about 15k on them. Only thing that i did to the car recently tranny wise would be on the 4th of this month i was trying to pass up a big rig on a 2 lane road and i was going about 50mph and accidently put it in 1st instead of 3rd. But before i even let the clutch all the way out i popped it back out and put it back in 5th. I'm gonna jack the car up tomarrow and see what i can find out. I just hope i don't have to drop that damn tranny again because 3 times in 1 year isn't to pleasing. Ecspecially when it ways a ton.

Re: Help plz...my car won't go in any gear...

Okay here is an update on my tranny situation. I checked the slave cylinder and it moves good when you press on the clutch. The clutch fork looked okay as far as i could tell with the tranny still bolted on. Here is the weird part though. If i turn the car off i can put it in 1st gear. If i start the car in 1st the tires start to spin. Even if i push in the clutch the tires don't stop spinning. It does this also in 2nd and 3rd gear. Except in 3rd if i let out on the clutch the car will die most of the time. So there is some new info. Any ideas on what it could be with that new info before i have to drop the tranny?

i had a very similar problem when i replaced my transmission. i put it all back together and it wouldn't get into any gear while on. when i turned it off, it made it in fine.

i replaced the entire clutch assembly and it seemed to fix it. I think it was a bad TO bearing. it worked just fine before the tranny swap, too.

Re: Help plz...my car won't go in any gear...

Something is keeping the clutch from disengaging...a broken disc spring or a piece of the disc material is pretty common. It only takes a small piece of material wedged between disc and pressure plate to lock up the entire assembly.

Well i hope it isn't the clutch already. I only have about 6,000 on my mcleod single disc. So if it is that, that went out already i'm gonna be upset.
