Question Car stumbles, bogs, then takes off like a rocket!?!

I have a strange thing happening with my 95TA. When I start it, it will not have any power until I have driven it really easy for about a mile or so. Then I can literally feel it wanting to take off like a rocket. If I step on the gas before this, it just stumbles and doesn't want to do anything. After this point it 'tells' me that it wants to go,(I can feel it sort of lurch forward) I can step on the gas and it will go like crazy!!! It's almost like the computer is cutting my fuel to wait the engine to warm up or something. But it happens even if the car is warm or after I've driven it like an old lady or a little while. This started even before I did the mods!! Any idea out there????

It could be that your programming is a little too rich at ambient CTS conditions. This could be easily reprogrammed by Ed Wright or whoever your local programmer is...if that's the case. If you have someone with ATAP or some kind of scanning software, you can connect it to your car when it's cold to read the O2 sensor under those conditions. You could even bring your car to a shop that has a WideBand O2 sensor to verify you A/F ratio at those conditions. Simply bring an extra CTS with you and plug it in the connector just before your "test".

Another thing that comes to mind is the Opti. It may be a bit of a stretch, but my wife's '94 Impala SS was running horribly (it would bog or hestitate) when you first started it in the mornings and stepped on the gas, but it would idle just fine and run just fine once it warmed up. I replaced the Opti and the problem went away.

Good Luck,
Kevin

It will do it even when the car is warm and I've just been driving around for a while at low rpm or after the car is hot and then I turn it off, start it, and drive again (like just stopping in at a gas station or something). I don't have any scan software/hardware. Where/what is good to pick up?

Do a search for Freescan. It does the job and it's free. It may help you diagnose the problem.
