Car sputtering and almost stalling, help
Car sputtering and almost stalling, help
Hey Guys,
Well just did an intake manifold change (not sure if this is related or not) and I have an issue when the car warms up. I'll be driving it and as I blend out the clutch and begin to softly accelerate in first gear, the car feels like it loses power for a moment and it quickly recovers. It actually stalled a couple times after I took off after sitting at a light. I made it back to my garage and when I pulled it in the garage, I let it idle and the rpms would dip harshy at idle then it would catch itself. It finally threw a code P1054 which refers to the passenger side O2 sensor giving insufficient information. Would this code cause this condition? I check the wiring and I know its a little burnt(happened a while ago and it's been fine) and I have moved it away from the headers as best I can. Any help to solve this issue would be appreciated.

I would change the sensor and check it again. It won't hurt and needs to be done so you have one less thing to worry about it being. I have seen may posts with simular problems and it can be a number of things. I would check things like fuel pressure, Vacuum test and anything that has to do with the new manifold. I had a vacuum hose disconnected and had idle and perfromance issues. Check everything from plug wires to possible intake leaks.
I checked the vacuum fittings and everything looks good in that regard. I am going to replaced the O2 sensors since it would be one of the easier things replace. Anyone know what guage wire the O2 sensor uses going to the pcm? If I have to, I will cut out the possible bad section and rewire it. Do I need to solder the new wire or will simple crimp connectors be sufficient?
I also got a code for both passenger and driver side sensors giving insufficient info after I let the car idle for a while after the new intake manifold install. I haven't seen the drivers side code pop up again but the right one has obviously. Could this be a sign that the one is probably toast and the other one isn't far behind?
