Car shutoff while driving today...

No symptoms at all really. I was just driving and all of a sudden the engine just died. Everything else stayed on, lights etc. I know its not a battery or power issue. Now it doesnt start at all, just sits there and cranks.

The only thing I can think of is in the last 4 months or so my car has hesitated slightly on start-up more than usual....

I replaced the coil, ICM, plugs and wires about 6 months ago, all have less than 4,000 miles on them. I have never replaced the opti....

Also, fuel filter is a month old, and I can hear the fuel pump priming when I try to start it so I am pretty sure its not bad....I don't think its a fuel issue.

optispark??

Re: Car shutoff while driving today...

Mine started giving me trouble in the mornings at random then finally shut off on a hill in rush hour traffic. I thought for sure if was the opti. Found code 15. Replaced the coolant temp sensor and it runs like a champ. Not sure if you tried checking codes yet, but my check engine light was not on yet the code was stored in there.

I think Autozone only checks OBD-II cars around here...where could I get a scanner or get it scanned while its not running?

Check your fuel pump wiring harness at the back.

Had this happen to me a couple times in my A4 LS1. It never happened untill I installed my stall converter. This is how it would happen, id be driving around 75-80mph so id have a few thousand RPM in the engine. When id lift my foot off the gas the RPM's for some reason would dip pretty low, then try to recover and just stall out. Only did it a couple of times but thats the only time it would ever do it. It may be nothing to worry about at all if this fits your situation.
