Car is overheating,any ideas welcome!

My car seems to be having the a boil over problem, i go on the freeway and temps are nice and low but once it idles for a long while,it boils over, what gives??(BTW changed Tstat, and rad cap and fans turn on at 2XX degrees) any ideas??Im thinkin if it was clogged radiator it would over heat on the freeway as well due to lack of flow. Also no water in the oil and no leaks anywhere (except when it boils over obviously)

I have my fans programmed to come on at 180...excuse me, fan, the other runs constantly. If your Tstat has gotten hot since you repaced it, replace it again... it's most likely bad. Have you physically looked to see if both fans work? If they don't both run when your car is at an idle and temp 200+ you may have a bad relay or bad fan motor.

I do not know for sure if it is necesary to bleed it every time you have to add water, but I do. While I am filling the radiator, I have both screws open to ensure that there is no air in the system. You do know how to do this?

How sure are you that both of your fans come on? Just curious. I thought both of mine did because I checked them, turns out when my car was heating up I had a bad connection that of course magically worked fine when I checked it, but not when I was driving. I took off the plugs on both of my fans and cleaned them with a wire brush and they have worked fine since.

Are you getting any codes?

My 1st guess would be to check the ECT. That went out on my 96 and caused hella overheating problems.

If its only a city thing, then you know our radiatior and thermo are fine. Its something in the fans and their kick on. I would check ECT or fan relays as they are the most common reason fans dont kick on. Could also be your fan motors. Try and hardwire your fans up to the battery to see if they work. You could also swap temp sensors from the top of the water pump and the drivers cylinder head.

Good luck man,
Stu
