Exclamation car nose dives

ok bought my son a 96 Z28 6 speed.car runs great.have 149000 miles.the issue i am having is when ur in second gear and nail it to the floor,it seems like it takes a nose dive and then kicks right in.acts like if it has a governor on it.i know the guy we bought it from put a stock distributor in it.the things runs great.it doesnt do the nose dive if u driving it normal.it seems to be fast from what i can tell.just trying to figure out this issue.thats the best way i can tell u what it is doing.

Re: car nose dives

Sounds like traction control to me, without actually seeing the car do it.

Re: car nose dives

Traction control was added as an OPTION in 95. Is there a large, ugly black box sitting on top of the driver's side valve cover? If so, you have traction control, if not you don't have it. Or look for RPO "NW9" on the build code tag.

Re: car nose dives

yes it has traction control.my son said he sees lost traction pop up on the gauge cluster when i do that.not sure on what rpms i am at when it does it.i have the traction control turned off.so if it is related to that, why does it do that?makes me think something is wrong with the car.

Re: car nose dives

Do you turn the TC off every time you start the engine? It resets to "on" every time you turn the key off.

Re: car nose dives

i didnt know that.so that would explain the traction lost popping up on the cluster when i do that.doesnt the switch on the dash light up when u start the car?maybe the bulb is burnt out.going to see about that and turn it off and do another lanch to see what happens

Re: car nose dives

Traction lost will pop up on the dash anytime the rear wheels spin whether traction control is on or not. What you're describing doesn't really sound like the traction control system to me though. On my 98 for instance when the tires break lose the engine will spin up very quickly and then the computer reins things in quickly and it feels like someone pushing your foot off of the throttle. Makes me look silly too.

Re: car nose dives

well i dont like this traction control.makes driving it not fun.yes it does seem like ur foot can off the pedal when it happens.i know we have 1 bad O2 sensor which is going to be replace.now is there a way around this issue to stop the nose dive when i nail it in second?we both want to enjoy driving this car.i just know we r going to get in trouble driving it like we do.lol

IMO a younger kid dont belong behind the wheel of a high horse power car..So any ways, just make sure you turn the Tc button off everytime you start it.Also watch the RPMS,like stated before you could be hitting the rev limiter.
