Car On Last Breath? Need Help!

My car yesterday morning started making a litte ticking noise that was insink to the RMPS I was going. I was about 5 miles from my house but about .5 from my friend's house. So I stoped there to check it out...I let my friend here it and by the time I got to his house it was loud. So, I left it there for about 8 hours. Then I came back with some buddies of mine and they said it was a Push Rod that was bent. I was like damn..So, I drove it back to my house because I have more tools there and it is a better place to take a look at it.....Now I have all the Rokcer Arms and Push Rods out but everything there looks fine. My heads are not off yet. What could this be? It is a higher pitch Knocking sound. My friend said something about dropping a vavle? Please Help!

just look-
is a valve missing?

more seriously-
do you have aftermarket rockers? make sure they are torqued down right.

maybe you spun a bearing or have rod knock?
bent pushrod would have been my last suspect on stock cam/springs though especailly if yours just cruising through town....

So no pushrods were bent?

Did you reassemble it and start it up again?

It could have been just a loose rocker or a bad lifter.

you would know if you dropped a valve - you'd be getting a whole lot more than a little ticking

Have you ruled out an exhaust leak? From your description thats the first thing I thought of. If its a single ticking that normally means its at the manifold, if its rapid ticking, that normlaly means at the Y-pipe.

Look for blackness around the exhaust manifold where it could be leaking...and if you really want to check, dump a small amount of tranny fluid in the intake while its running and check for leaking smoke.
