Car just goes and dies!!!
When my first opti started to die the car would run 5-10min then die pulled over opened the hood waited 20min ran 2min and died again. This when on for a couple of weeks...tried new ICM, coil...finally only had one thing left the opti. Second time it sputtered for 10sec on the highway then cleared up. Next day I went to drive it 20min into the trip sputtered and died. Both times it was very evident it was the opti once it was out.
DTC's usually associated with a dying opti 16,36,42 sometimes nothing comes up at the beginning of the failure, but will show if allowed to get worse. All of this is from my own personal experience

Do a quick test to check for AC on the alternator output. Use a meter set to AC and check from the negative battery terminal to the output of the alternator. The AC reading should be less than 0.03VAC.
The reason I ask is, it was explained to me that if the diodes in the alternator are breaking down and allowing too much AC on the DC supply line. This AC voltage will cause the PCM to go wacky. It can not deal with any AC voltage and can throw codes, go into spastic fits, all sorts of problems.
The test is simple and may just explain the wierd behavior of the car and why it won't do it when you get to the dealer.
If that test comes out ok, the next thing to do is unplug every connector you can get your hands on and check the pins for damage or corrosion and plug them back in again.

ANOTHER UPDATE:
I got my car back yesterday!
Me and my dad went to pick it up from the dealer it was at. After paying the bill, we went to leave. Upon starting it up, the car ran for crap. It had a major miss, with pinging and knocking involved too. I was like, what did they do to my car?
So , having no faith in the tachnicians there, we took it home (they couldn't tell that the car wasn't right with that kind of a miss) We bring it home and get my mom to come outside to tell us how it was running when it died(she was driving it then) and she replied that it was just like that.
My dad pulls out a thermal probe and tests all the header tubes real close to the head to find the dead cylinder. The number 5 cylinder was out, at about 150-200 degrees cooler than the rest of the pipes. We now look for the problem, finding that the plug wire was not connected at all to the opti, it was just hanging there. SO we jack it up and reattach it, car runs great now.
We even took it out and got on it to see if it would miss under load. Not a hesitation at all.
So the end result of this is that i was without my car for 5 days, the car had 31 miles put on it and nothing was accomplished, even after a $114.95 bill. and I still don't know why it died.
I plan on replacing the plugs, coil, and icm. The wires look to be fairly new, they are accel 8mm so they are decent. Would the one cylinder be the reason for it dying? I can fix obvious stuff, but when its hidden its tricky as you all know!
The car runs great now, but is it going to die again?

slopokrodrigez,
you have a PM. i just checked my output and it was at 0.024V that is just sitting, not cranking the motor over at all.

UPDATE:
I just replaced the coil and ICM......car runs like a dream....it pulls harder than it ever has since i forst bough it ......i used to have put alot of throttle down to even wiggle my rear around corners....now u i cant keep my rear end from sliding lol.....i thought that i lost power in the low rpms when i punched it full throttle froma stop sign but i heard my tires spinning lol so thats a good thing...
so i beat on my car for the last 10 minutes i mean literally beat on it and no problem yet...i let the car idle no movement in my idle not even a studder..turned the car off turned it back on still nothing
i would like to say PROBLEM SOLVED...but i am not too sure since it seemed to occur whenever it wanted to .....i will update u guys later tomarrow if i have any problems or not
oh yeah i did the LT4 KM and throttle body bypass

since you asked, i swear by the msd stuff and their customer service is excellent!!!!!!
g'luck on choice!
So MSD is the recommendation.....
Do I get the 6A
6AL
and what about a coil... just the standard blaster coil, or the specific one they make for a gm two connection style?
How hard is it to wire up?
Has anyone had any experience with the Crane HI-6S digital box?
