Car Just Died......Please Help

Well i just got a cam put in last week along with a new opti and coil pack with new plugs and wires. Driving down the road tonight and the car just shuts off.... and won't turn back on. the car cranks over but won't come to life... I can hear the fuel pump primeing itself so it's not the fuel pump... what happened to it?

It's a 95 Z28, 6-speed, 96,000km

easiest thing to start with is probably fuel pressure. you need a fuel pressure gauge with a fitting for the shrader valve. at KOEO (key on engine off) position it should be around 42 psi and should drop only a few psi at most after about 5 minutes. if it instantly bleeds off then it is probably the check valve in the fuel pump and it needs to be replaced. if it bleeds off slowly it could be the regulator, injectors, or a leak. sometimes if the regulator is bad there will be moisture inside the vacuum line. at idle it should drop 3-8 psi from the 42 at KOEO, but hopefully is closer to 8 less. then when if you pull the vacuum line off the regulator at idle the pressure should go back to 42.

You check the connections on the coil and ICM? Or better yet pull the coil wire off the opti prop it on something metal on the engine about 1/4 inch away and crank it to see if at the very least you are getting spark. You should see a nice fat blue spark.

Just thinking out loud

Well after spending a ton of time trying to figure out what went wrong, we checked the fuel presure and it is fine, changed the coil pack and ICM, checked the opti. and after all that the car still won't start. However we do have a check engine light, we are pulling the code tomorrow to see what it is.

Thanks, Pat
