Re: car just died
I am the farthest thing from a mechanic... and i have no tools or a garage to do or check anything. I am just curious as to what it may be. The shop its at just called a little while ago and said he thinks my timing chain may be broke. He told me he thinks that cause the rods are not moving... i think thats what he said... he told me its gonna be around 650-750$
Re: car just died
You might want to ask the mechanic again. The starter turns the flywheel, which is bolted to the crank. The rods are also bolted to the crank. The timing chain turns the cam.
Unless he pulled the oil pan (highly unlikely) or put a compression/leaker tester on it (fairly unlikely) I'm not sure how he could tell that the rods were not moving.
Perhaps he said the cam was not turning? He could tell this pretty easily by pulling a valve cover and seeing if the pushrods/rockers were moving. I guess a Cloyes double roller can break, but that unit is pretty strong...

Re: car just died
i think he said rockers... i couldnt barely hear him... my cell was breaking up... ill call him again tomorrow just to make sure... i know he didnt pull the oil pan or check the compression
Re: car just died
well just got off the phone with the actual mechanic who is working on my car... he told me there is no valve train movement what so ever... he is starting to take everything apart now and will call me back as soon as he finds out more... sounds like its gonna be expensive dammit...
Re: car just died
No, that could still be your timing chain. Don't give up hope yet. Essentially your cam is not turning, so the valves are not opening and closing. In all reality, it's not as bad as what could have happened.
But yeah, let's wait and see.

Re: car just died
Unfortunately. that's a catastrophic failure at 125mph. The cam drives the oil pump so that non turning cam just ate your engine. Also, you might have head damage from the pistons possibly striking the valves, bending them and breaking the guides.
Be prepared for a big bill....you might even want to start looking for another engine.
Good luck.

Re: car just died
Be sure and visually verify this. An event of this magnitude could be disastrous. Not trying to be negative, trust me. But physically observe the broken parts before approving anything else. If it is a broken timing chain and the engine has rotated, the valves could have broken the piston tops, which would pretty much have trashed the current engine. Unless number matching counts, you may be better off with another, already built, short or long block. Best of luck.
