car has no power (kinda long)

okay, i got the motor put together. i still have a few things to button up since the install, like bleeding the breaks and putting in ac condensor and radiator but thats about it. well, since i was about finished for the night i decided to hook up the battery and see how my new speakers that i got sounded. so i hook up the positive cable and then the negative. as i'm hooking up the negative i hear a quiet clicking noise coming from the fuse box. thats pretty typical for my car as soon as power is connected. well, since the negative cable was slightly twisted i had a little trouble getting the thread started on the battery stud/bolt and so i heard the clicking a few more times and then nothing. i didnt think anything of it for a sec there because the second it gets power you hear the click and then stays quiet. it wasnt until i opened the door that i realized that there was a problem (keys were in the ignition and no door chime). so i tried turning the key anyways and nothing. the battery has been sitting for about 3 months, so i decide to use a battery jump pack to see if the problem lies in the battery. still nothing. so i pull the small fuses out of the fuse box and none of them are popped. i cant really tell as far as the relays go. i get absolutely no power whatsoever. anyone got any suggestions to whats wrong or if i might have messed something up? thanks for the help guys.

You try the battery? It might be (probably) dead.... cause it's probably the cause. Hell I had a terminal bolt corrode off. Wiggle the crap out of those too.

battery is pretty new still. i have pretty new battery bolts too. and really no corrosion on the wire terminals. also i tried a battery jump start pack that i know is fully charged and couldnt get any thing from that. not even a light flicker. but i will try it again tomorrow and see if anything has changed. this is a weird problem. havent heard of it yet. figures it would happen to me.

Re: car has no power (kinda long)

I had the same problem. The only thing that would work was the head lights. My ignition switch was bad.It is located up under the dash on top of the steering shaft.I have had to replace 3 ignition switch. This last time my turning signals, fans and heater motor would not work.I didn't think it was the ignition switch because i had replaced it 7 or 8 months ago.So i had gm dealer to check it out.The gm dealer charged me $68.00 and said it was the ignition switch.I didn't think that was the problem but i put one in and it fixxed my car.My rpm gauge would always mess up or stop working right before the switch would go out.I hope this helps.
