Car died while driving

I was driving today just at normal acceleration and shifting from first to second everyhting seemed fine but all of a sudden I hear some funny noises and the car dies and a some smoke poured out from under the engine area.

It won't start back up now. This is a new motor with only about 5000 miles on it. It has been running awesome and was running fine right up until this happened. There was nothing abnormal before this happened. I do have a new Spec stage 3 clutch that I put in when we did the motor. I wasn't sure if maybe it grenaded during the shift and caused the pressure plate to lock up killing the motor or what. Is this possible?

I first I thought the motor seized up or something because I heard some noises, then it died. Then I started thinking that it occurred while shifting into second and letting off the clutch.

I really do not have any idea what the heck is going on. WHere should I start?

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Did the motor start telling you jokes?

Will the motor spin when you engage the starter?

Well it looks like the motor is trying to turn over but it won't start. I don't know if it is the Opti, motor damage or what. If the Opti went bad then would there have been smoke? The car made some sort of screech sound. The sound wasn't really loud.

I don't think it is the timing chain because I bought a new Extreme duty LT4 from GM.

Any ideas?

When you try to start it, does everything sound normal? The usual starter and cranking sounds?

You need to start checking for spark and fuel.
