car died out

Tonight I was driving around and I parked at a gas station with the car running at idle. It began to hesitate and died. I started it back up and it took about 4 seconds of cranking. I parked it for a couple hours and went back to it and it did the same thing. I drove around for a little bit more and it died on me again when i was driving. This time it smelt like gas. I am thinking the fuel injectors may be clogged or the fuel filter might be dirty and not enough fuel is getting to the engine. I sometimes have an idle stumble also. Any ideas?

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge that you can attach to the shrader valve? If so check your fuel pressure when you turn the key forward. It should jump up in the neighborhood of 50 or so. If you are having fuel issues I would change the filter first since it is a pretty easy job. If you dont have a fuel pressure gauge press down on the pin inside the shrader valve and see if you get fuel out.
