Crank hub is stuck

Im using a 3 toe puller to get it off. It has pulled it about an inch or so but now I cant get it to turn any more and pull any more off. It does it so slow like one thread if that per pull. The crank just turns on me. Any ideas? I could take a picture to show you.

What are you using to push against in the middle of the crank bolt threads?

You will also need a buddy to help you hold the crank still. Its always nice to have a friend around when you work on these automobiles

I put a 1/4" extension in the hole so not to ruin the threads. Then the puller hits that.

How would we go about holding the crank in place?

This is the farthest I have ever dove into my car.

make sure you have a long enough bolt to push against or else the hub will get stuck on that. go to ace and buy a long 3/8" grade 8 bolt. cut the threads off and file it down. stick that in there to push against so you know the hub is not getting stuck on it.

on holding the crank still, you are gonna have to use a prybar somewhere to hold the hub from moving. on a 6spd you can just throw the car in 5th gear and it wont turn.

Is there still some of the extension sticking out. Make sure it is long enough.

Unfortunately, because of the design of the hub, this is one of the things on the LT1 that trip people up. You may have to fab up something you can bolt to one or better yet, two of the pulley holes to act as a wedge to hold the hub still. This is if your car is an auto. If it's a manual, put it in gear and the brake on.

Yeah, I still have a good 2 inches at least of the extension sticking out.

Besides a wedge, it there any easier way. My brother is here so he can help me.

So I guess my problem is just the crank turning. It pulled it off pretty well and was going smooth for a little bit. I would think that the beginning would be harder.

Since you have some help, got a strap wrench or a chain whip?

Thanks for the help. Shoebox, that idea of the pry bar is workign great. I wedged it inbetween 2 of the bolts on the puller and then the other part under the AC compressor bracket and it doesnt move.

One more question though, lol. The bolt I am using in the puller is starting to smash (compress) b/c it is obviously not as hard as the extension. It is moving the hub but smashing at the same time. I didnt put the cone thing on the puller bolt b/c at first it wouldnt fit so I started using just the bolt and didnt take it back out and put the piece on. Should I file down the smashed up piece and put this on or just bear it out and keep pushin with just the bolt?

Thanks again.
