Car died on the highway, what can it be?

OK, I was driving down the highway at around 60 mph, when all of a sudden the car died. Tach and speedo went to 0, as did oil pressure, and I believe volts too. The, the check gauges light went on. Accessories still worked, radio was still on. I coasted to the side of the road into a parking lot, and opened the hood. All of the fuses were good. I pulled the PCM?BATT fuse for 2 minutes, then put it back in. The car fired right up. I drove about another 5 miles home, without any hiccup. I have no clue what it could be, it was very wierd. I run a stock GM opti, with about 30K miles on it, and a Delteq with about 5K miles on it. Other than that, the rest of the electronics are stock. Anyone ever experience this?

It could be a number of things but this happened to me and the serpentine belt came loose after going through a big puddle. The car acted just like you said and it was a 1 block walk to the belt in the raod. Thank god everyone ran it over so i needed to buy a new one but at least i could get home that day. I had to replace the tensioner and all is well.

Could be the first sign of an almost toasted ignition switch.

The belt is still on there. I wish it was that, then I would know what the problem was. When the car shut off, I didnt even get an SES, everything just died, then the check gauges light came on. Im just trying to get a list of possible suspects, so I can start a process of elimination.

Its been a long time but someone had this happen and it was after they went over a bump or a big dip in the road. Something was loose and it lost connection just long enough to kill the car. Check the connections of the easy access wires and see if any are loose. I think his was the opti not on all the way or the harness had corosion on it.

Could easily be the ignition control module, when cold it can run fine, but once it heats up it can shut off on you without notice.
