Don't Bash Canton... they make some good stuff and they stand behind it. The valve covers are just on back order right now. I would only bash them if they didn't care to help fix the valve covers.

If Canton covers are no good without modification, which ones are good? I was just looking at those for my 396 build and now I realize that I will run into EVERY problem mentioned above so far. I'd like to avoid that if possible...

There really is no valve cover that will fit perfect and clear everything.
The ProForms will clear all rockers and the Jesel shaft rockers, (but need some clearancing for T&D shaft rockers). But the ProForms will not clear the alternator.

the Canton's almost clear the alternator and almost clear stud rockers but will never clear a shaft rocker system. Can't win.

ProForms being able to clear all stud mounted rockers and some shaft rockers takes the win I would say. Plus they are not so dang tall, (like the Cantons) and thus are much easier to fit under a cowl. Moving or clearancing the alternator is the major pain with them though.

I just got off the phone with Canton tech and it seems that the valve covers that had issues with the alternator cut out was their 1st production run.

The tech guy told me to mail in the single cover thats messed up and they'll replace it within a week. So we'll see how it goes.

Mine hit the Pro Mags also. I sent it back to have them move the notched part forward a little but they're still hitting the rocker arm.

I also moved the alternator up with a bracket so the cover could be moved forward. The old thread if interested: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...=457848&page=2

I remember your thread and hopefully when I sent the valve cover back to Canton they can correct the notch so that it fits the alternator without custom spacer and still provide for the wide body CC Pro Magnum rockers.

When mine went back the first time they were supposed to move it 1/4", which wasn't enough to correct it, but enough to interefere with the alternator. I'm finally getting off my butt and sending them back again, and going with another 1/4". They said there might be a charge for it this time.

Where can you get these proform covers from? I thought the cantons would clear shaft mount rockers but i guess i was wrong.

ProForms are from Summit or Jegs or most speed shops.
Alternator clearance needs addressing if using the ProForms

Let me retract my guesstimate that the Canton's won't fit over shaft rockers. They might.

If they can clear this shaft in this photo (the shaft stand)....

The canton valve covers will not work on the 96 and 97 SS they are to tall for the ramair intake. The canton valve covers will not work with the Mac header for 95 to 97 camaro the Driver side header tubs come up to high. Anyone need a set of canton valve covers?

Get rid of the SS style induction. It ain't doing you any good anyway.
