Canton valve covers

Does anyone with a 96 or 97 camaro SS run the Canton fabbed aluminum valve covers, want to make sure they will work with the SS ram air system.

The valve covers shouldn't interfere with the stock SS intake system. However you may run into a snag with the cover's not clearing the alternator.

I the Cantons are fabricated with a notch on the passenger's side cover to clear the alternator. Basically, they are made for an F-Body application, check-out the photo below.

That was the whole reason i bought them but I they are just not made correctly.

1) The cut out doesn't fit right and the power steering pump gets in the way.

I had to fabricate a spacer for the alternator and the alternator bracket to get it to function properly and rotated the outlet line for the power steering pump.

2) The tabs to locate the cover has to be bent so that it's seated properly

3) It doesn't clear the CC Pro Magnum rockers since they are wide...they needed to be ground down.

P.S. Someone should tell Canton to reengineer these covers! A set of brand new $200 valve covers shouldn't require this much tweeking!! What sucks is if I sent these covers back it would cost me about $20-30 in shipping and a few weeks to get a new set in.

I just got done putting a motor together and I had to grind the underside of the VC to clear the pro mags on the motor. I also had to make a spacer much like The Engineer did. Mine did not hit the power steering pump though, but I am suprised they did not. Terrible quality for a $200 set of valve covers. I could have just as easily put stock VCs on and clearanced them for free. I know people always say that Canton stands behind their product, but I do not have weeks to wait while they fix a problem that should have already been taken care of.

Did the stock length serpentine belt fit with the new spacer?

Yes but it was a lillte loose, but I am also running an ATI damper that is smaller than stock. I will get the part number for the smaller ATI belt that fits perfectly for me when I get home.

I would think Canton would be better than that.
