Canton pan & shimming engine

My Canton oil pan is touching the steering rack. I've seen that some people have shimmed between the motor mounts and the block about 1/8" with washers. Did you have to grind out the holes in the mounts to account for the additional height? I'm having a tough time getting the bolts to line up with the block.

Maybe this is a little too ambitious, but would there be any benefit to using a plate as a shim instead of hardened wahsers, since it would contact on the entire surface instead of just at the washers?

Have you thought about using the poly urethane motor mounts? you may get the height you need to clear the pan, sounds like a lot more work to shim.

My poly mounts definintely gave me additional clearance. My headers used to rub and no longer do now

Any problems with vibration from them? I tried a poly trans mount and it drove me nuts.

I already have the bolts out and the engine raised a little, I should probably replace the mounts themselves, but they cost so much that I'm going to try the shims and see how it goes.

Yah, they do vibrate quite a bit.

Call Canton.
They have one to fit/or will mod your pan to fit.
Leave the bolts on the block loose and install through bolt then tighten all bolts.

I have the 242t, which is supposed to fit, but it seems to be hit or miss. I saw that they will modify it, but shimming seems to appeal to me more at this point vs. taking the pan off.

I have the washers on the bolts, I just can't get the bolts to line up with the bolt holes on the block. Maybe I just need to give the mount a little extra push.

File the offending holes in the way they need to go to line up.
Seems if they will line up without the washers they would start with the washers.Make sure the bolts will screw into the holes too. I have used the thick washers(1/8") from ARP like is used on intake bolts.

I bought some graded washers, didn't even think about the ARP ones.

I thought they would line up too, the engine should only be (1/8")*.707 higher than before the washers. Just wanted to make sure before removing material. I'll get to grindin'!
