Canton oil pan issue
Will it not go in there? Ive heard the headers are too close to the sensor but I havent heard it hitting the baffle before?
Are you putting this on with the motor in the car? If so, do you have any pointers?
Ill be doing this here in the next few wks..

I have the engine out of the car. The problem is the oil level sensor is 4 1/2 inches long, and it is hitting the corner of one
of the baffles inside the pan. I'm sure I can't be the only person that's seen this issue.
Another issue you will need to watch for is if you have a stroker,
I had to remove one of the windage trays, because one of the
rod bolts was getting too close for comfort.
The pan I have is from Nu-Tek, it's suppose to have modifications
to fix the header, sensor, and K-member issues that the original Cantons have.
Good luck,

Oops, guess they didn't fix everything. I have the "old" Canton pan and the sensor doesn't interfere with anything INSIDE the pan. It would be nice if they had bothered to install one on a car (both times!) before bringing it to market...
Call Nutek. They're going round and round with canton on this right now.
We just bought a pan from them last last week for the 383, and they actually called US today to tell us about this problem and have been very helpful. (We had no clue, hadn't even taken it out of the box yet)
They said as soon as they hear back from Canton they'll tell us what to do with it.
Lets just say that I'm totally BLOWN AWAY by their customer service.

Talked to Nick today, he said the same thing. He's working with
Canton to find out whats going on. I'm going to see if Chevy sells a shorter oil level sensor, maybe that's the issue.
I agree TEEK, Nu-Tek rocks, I've never had an issue getting ahold of them!

It appears to be a batch issue. Our first shipment was checked very carefully to be sure we had a product that resolved all of the previous complaints. We were satisfied at that point, and have several of these in running vehicles. We're now on our 3rd batch, and it appears that they might have welded in the wrong baffles in this run. Unfortunately, we've already sold a few of these "incorrect" pans. We contacted Canton early this morning, as well as any customers who may have purchased one of these from us. Hopefully we've nailed this quick enough to avoid any serious inconvenience to anyone.

That's odd. I tried calling Nu-tek several times during the build of my 383 and could never get anyone. I left my name and number once and heard nothing from them.
Everything that I had heard about Nu-tek was great, and I've still seen nothing bad. That still didn't help me when I was ordering parts. Nick seems like a great guy from other people's experiences and his previous post here informing everyone of what's going on. I'll keep Nu-tek in mind for future reference.
As far as the low oil sensor hitting the baffle in the motor, can't you just trim a little off the baffle and be done with it?
With regard to the front of the pan resting on the stearing rack, that is normal for a deeper pan. You need to shim the motor mounts. This is not a new canton pan issue.

Not as easy as it sounds. It's hitting on the corner, you can't
just drill a hole in the side of the baffle and be done with it, you'll
have to get creative.
SSSalah,
As for the K-member issue, I thought that was one of the issues
Nu-Tek addressed. Do you have a Nu-Tek modified pan?

Yes I've got it from Nu-tek lately, and its hitting the steering rack not the k-member.
I thought that this is a modified unit that suppossed to have a straight forward installation.
Any way I'm out of luck reaching anyone at nu-tek for the second day, guess I'll just keep on trying.
