Canton Oil pan clearence problems?

I ordered a canton pan for my 396, and I test fitted it for clearence, and when I rotate the moter over the rods hit. Is this normal? I thought that was the whole point of that pan, well at least for me. Does anyone have any pictures of where it hits? Thanks a lot.

You do not want it to hit. You may have to "massage" it...

Hey Hoostie,
I haven't heard from you in a while...how's the buildup coming along? Which cam profile did you decide to go with? Sorry to hear about your pan not fitting right. Like the guy said above, you might have to dimple the pan to get the rod bolts to clear....

Hoostie- I have seen pics of CT's rods and, if you have not seen them, there is a huge difference in rod clearance between different brands of rods. You might take the shortblock up to your machine shop and see if they can gain some clearance out of your rods without having to chop into the pan too badly.

My buddies 396 hit his canton pan too. He put the pan on, and turned the motor over and over, so it actually scored the pan a little. Then he used the BFH method to clearance it a little more.
