Rev Limiter

What is the stock rev limiter for a 95 lt1 6 speed?? i want to know just to be on the safe side so i wont hit the limiter. i know that if i get my cpu programmed i can raise it or take it off but i just want to be sure not to over rev. isnt it at 6200? do you think shifting at 5800 is ok? thanks guys!

It is somewhere around 5900-6100 I forget the exact number and the stock tach isnt all that accurate.
I take it as high as possible and occasionally bang the limiter when powershifting.
If you are trying to find the best place to shift you should go ahead and dyno your car then find a spot 2-300RPM after peak HP is where you want to shift for the best results.

Hitting the rev limiter on acceleration to an upshift isn't a problem at all. You shouldn't be worried about it. As a matter of fact, I'd recommend finding a nice straight street and driving the car right up and bouncing off the rev limiter (say in 2nd gear), just so you know what it feels like. Then if you hit the limiter while racing, you won't be as shocked.

The over-rev concern is one of accidentally shifting down a gear (say from 2nd into 1st) when you wanted to upshift. In that case, it doesn't matter what your rev limit is set to, the computer isn't going to save your motor.

I'd only raise the rev limit if there's some reason your car is now making power up higher, and your valvetrain is prepared to handle it.

Actually, the stock rev limiter for a 95 M6 is 5886 RPM for 1st gear and 5805 RPM for 2nd to 6th.
Since our tachs are off by 100-300 RPM, this may look like a little over 6000 rpm on the stock tach.

Besides directly monitoring with a laptop... Who/What makes the most accurate tach for our vehicles?
